LISBON:

Lisbon is the capital of Portugal, where I landed and left. The city is enough small and runs smoothly in three-four days.

SINTRA:

If you come to Potogallo I suggest you to admire Sintra, whose cultural landscape has been a World Heritage Site since 1995.

ALGARVE :

Along the south coast of Portugal you can admire beaches with golden sand and crystal clear sea. But pay attention to the water temperature, very cold!

ADVICE:

  1. If you want to do similar itineraries on the road, rent a car. For 13 days I spent 299 euros in total (23 euros per day). If you only visit Lisbon, however, use Uber: it is everywhere and at ridiculously low prices (it is more convenient than the Metro if you are at least 2 people).

  2. Rent the Telepass: even if you do not find motorway toll booths, cameras often charge the cost of the toll to the relative license plate along the roads.

  3. Even if you travel in the summer, always bring sweaters or a jacket: after 7pm it's always cool!

  4. Did you know that Portugal is the world's leading producer of Cork? I recommend some nice souvenirs with this material, with which they really do everything, even clothing. Same goes for canned sardines. You will find traditional and colorful shops in the main cities, with different preservation recipes.

  5. Get an umbrella for a few Euros if you decide to go to the beach: you will hardly find "Italian style" Lidos. Most of the beaches are free and, therefore, it is better to have a cover for the hottest hours. The Oceanic wind is pleasant, but dangerous: you can risk getting burned without realizing it.

  6. If you are a lover of wine, you might be interested in "La Strada dei Vinhos Verdes", in the north-west of the country. Another typical drink is Ginjinha, a liqueur produced with the infusion of sour cherries or Beirão: a double distillate of seeds and herbs from all over the world. Not to be missed is the Fish Cataplana, a typical Portuguese dish made in a rounded container of copper or aluminum typical of the Algarve area.

CURRENCY:

Portugal has adopted Euro as its currency since January 1, 2002. Previously, the Portuguese Escudo was used.
